Designed to block out light and provide total privacy when fully extended, blackout blinds are made from dense opaque fabrics coated with a light-blocking layer, preventing light from passing through. They are ideal for bedrooms, home theatres and windows requiring complete light control or thermal insulation.
Blockout blinds create a barrier between the window and the room, insulating the space from harsh sun, wind or drafts. Blackout roller blinds can be manually operated by chain, spring, or motorised for added luxury. They are typically installed in the window's reveal or fixed on the architrave or ceiling.
By backward rolling the fabric, the blackout blind fits closer to the window, minimising the gap through which light can enter. For those requiring superior blackout properties that completely darken the room, our roller blinds with cassettes offer a cassette and channels that frame the blind, eliminating the gap between the roller blind and the window.

Established in 1956, Tiptop Blinds is a family-owned business specialising in manufacturing high-quality blinds and outdoor shade solutions. Our dedicated facility, now located on Buckland Street in Clayton, is where we craft Australian-made blinds, curtains, and awnings, offering them to our clients at direct-from-the-manufacturer prices.
Our experienced team of consultants provides complimentary in-home consultations, where they discuss your project, offer expert advice, measure your windows, and provide a quote. In 2002, we opened our state-of-the-art showroom, situated in front of our factory, to give clients the opportunity to see, touch, and feel our extensive range of products and fabrics.
From sheer curtains to Roman blinds, blockout and sunscreen roller blinds, and plantation shutters, our full selection of window treatments is available for viewing at the Tiptop showroom. You can also book a complimentary 45-minute showroom consultation with our in-house interior designer.

Double Roller Blinds – Dual Functionality
Our blockout roller blinds are often paired with sunscreen blinds in a combination known as 'double roller blinds'. The unique bracket mechanism enables us to install both a blockout roller blind and a sunscreen roller blind on the same bracket, allowing you to have daytime privacy and light filtering during the day and nighttime privacy with blockout roller blinds.
At Tiptop, you can choose from hundreds of fabric options for your blockout roller blinds — from wipeable PVC and vinyl options ideal for bathrooms and wet areas, to stunning textured and woven fabrics in whites, neutrals and earthy tones. You can also choose the colour of your bracket, chain, and bottom rail, or ask about our flagship wrapped bottom rail option.

If you are building a new home, reach out at the framing or roughing-in stage, and we will provide your builder with Molex cables that he will connect to your home's electricity. Battery-operated blockout roller blinds are also available for those who are happy to charge their blackout roller blinds every 4–6 months.
